Window XP Pro just turns off without warning.
    No shutdown proceedure, just off!

It seems to happen only while on line.
Could it be possible that with an answering service the system is detecting something.

When it does occur I have a message on my phone.

Without any further information, I'd suggest getting the most recent modem drivers from the manufacturer.

You may also want to enable or disbale the various "Wake on..." options in the BIOS and check new BIOS versions for fixes and updates.

Sounds like call waiting. At most it should only kick you offline.

To disable callwaiting while online do the following.

    1. control panel-Phone and Modem properties
    2. click edit
    3. down near bottom "disable call waiting" chose *70 or check with the phone co. if it is different for your company. *70 is standard.
