   When my computer starts up and shuts down, it makes a rather loud and annoying start up sound. Is there a way I can turn it off?
   
   I tried searching but this is the only thread I found and it doesn't give a solution.

   Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds tab. Explore the options a bit.
