I recently installed Internet Explorer 8 and am quite happy with its excellent speed (Firefox was taking forever to load).

However, when I click on a new tab I'm presenting with an option to browse privately or not. I simply click on the 'Home' icon to go into my home page (Google). Is there any way that I can go directly into my home page when I click on a new tab? I've searched around for a solution but found that none of them work. For example, a common suggestion is 'start>run>gpedit.msc>Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer / InPrivate>turn off inprivate browsing>enabled.

The problem with this is that my (and others) Internet Explorer bit of the above doesn't have InPrivate listed. All I have is Search, Windows Medium, Windows updates.

Would anyone have any further suggestions? Thank you.:)

Did you try going to IE8\Menu bar\Tools\InPrivate Browsing. Is it listed there.

For opening a new tab to your home page, go to Tools>Internet Options>General tab and in the Tabbed Browsing section, click on the Settings button.

In the window that opens, expand the drop-down list and click on "Your first home page," click OK and OK.

See if that does what you want.

It's only an information screen about InPrivate browsing, letting you know how to turn off private browsing if you are in that mode. I don't want to go into it in the first place. Thanks anyway. :)

The post above this provides the solution.

Miz, many thanks for providing the solution! :D

I've been scouring the internet for a while and came across several registry editing 'solutions', but yours is the only appropriate one for this situation.

    Thanks again. :)
