I've been struggleing with this issue for years and if I wasn't already bald I would tear my hair out.

When I want to select some pictures I use "control > left click" to select a number of pictures (usually not sequential). More often than not I wind up making copies the the pictures before I can move them. Besides losing the selection of pictures I now have a bunch of copies I need to delete.

What I would like to do is disable this copy option.

Can I get there from here.

Using windows xp pro, ie 7.

    Thanks...

To move files, select them as before (ctrl+left-clicking) then press ctrl+x then go to wherever you want to move the files and press ctrl+v. That may be better in your circumstances. You can do the same thing with the mouse by selecting them and then right-clicking any one of them and choosing CUT. Then go to your chosen destination - right-click it and choose PASTE.

Either way, the files will no longer be in the old source location, they will be MOVED.

Jim - what you're describing falls into the User Error catagory. I've done it many times:eek:

While holding the CTRL key and clicking on files - if you so much and drag the file one little fraction - it makes the duplicate(2) files.

Thanks Steve, Now I realize what Jim was referring to. I have been known to do that occasionally. If you're the least bit spastic when performing the procedure, you'll create dupes. I don't think there's any cure for that unless it might be to drink a better grade of whiskey. ;)

Thanks for the commisuration. I've looked all over the place but finding no options except to control my mouse better. A challenge for this 'ol phart. I'll keep after it... there has to be a tweak for this... somewhere.
