    Hi All,
I am trying to set up a network between my desktop and my sons Laptop.
I downloaded and printed the instructions from Arie and followed them exactly.
I cannot log on to the other computer from either side.
The only difference between the 2 computers is the network name. On my sons computer the network is called Albrecht, (our last name) and on my desktop it is called Network 2. I have no clue why that is, but I think that must be the problem. Question: is that the problem? And if so, how do I change that?

    Thanks
    Sven

What you are calling a network name is probably the workgroup name.
Make sure the Workgroup name is set the same as the other computers on your network. You can check & access your Workgroup name by going to Start > Control Panel > System and Security and clicking on System. Next to the Computer name, domain, and Workgroup settings is a Change settings link that will allow you to change the Workgroup name if needed.

    Hi markp62
No what I call my network is what I see when I go to:
Control Panel/All Control panel Items/ Network and sharing center under View your active networks. Both are set to home network and my desktop says "Network 2" and my sons laptop says Albrecht.
    How do I change that?
    Thanks
    Sven

I clicked on: Local Area Connection status, and it shows that IPv6 Connectivity No network access. Would that be the problem?

    Thanks

No, your network is not using IP6, it's only using IP4. IP6 has not yet been fully implemented for networks just yet.

    Hi all,
I am still trying to get this going.
When my son wants to join my network, he has to input his name and password. Password is simple, just my name. His name is Glenn. Now where on my computer do I input his name as person who is able to join the network? If this is like anywhere else, name and password have to match. I know where and how to change the password, but not where to input his name.
    Anyone?

    Thanks
    Sven

    Hi All,
Is it possible that my router is at fault? For a couple of week now the green light has turned to a red light. I have noticed no difference in performance. I can see all XP computers from my WIN7 computer and they can see me.
When I bought the win7 laptop, at first I could see the shared document older. Then, after a week or so that disappeared. Now I can see it again, but for a while, I could not see the XP computers. Now I can see all of them. I can share files with the XP computers, but not with the win7 computers. I guess that is where the network issue comes into play. After being able to see all computers, I went back to my sons laptop and tried to join the network again. I type the password and the status bar starts moving, but at the end it tells me: Windows cannot setup the network on this computer.
Must be something that I overlooked, but I don’t know what.
Any idea what I can try?
    Thanks
    Sven
