i was having problems installing norton 2004, as 2003 would not uninstall.

so I thought i could use brute force.

I removed ALL regestry keys associated with symentic / norton
    and renamed the norton folder

but... I still can't install 2004 because it says 2003 must first be removed.

How does windows know that it is instaled and
    How do I remove 2003???

    Not wise :)

Reinstall NAV 2003 - uninstall it then install NAV 2004.

    But

According to my NAV 2004 manual you only have to uninstall if the old version is earlier than 2002 -
    Or see the Symantec site

You have made the assumption, as many, many people do, that when a program installs, every key that is set up contains the name of the program or the name of the company.

    And, this is incorrect.

Thus, after finding and removing any key with Norton or Symantec in it, your registry still contains many entries associated with the product.

    Manually removing NAV 2003

**As well, installations install files into more folders than just \Program Files.

I've restored my reg to a backup proir to deleting all norton keys.

I now realize that it is not norton giving me problems, it is the "Windows Installer" service.

the windows installer returns error 2203, I hav looked up this error and found that i have a currpt windows instller.

how do I fix/re-install the 'WI'
