Some people have been able to fix that by uninstalling SP3 but save that for last.

If this is a recent problem, try System Restore to a date earlier than the problem.

Run sfc /scannow and be ready to supply the XP install CD if asked.

    Run chkdsk /f

Any backup images you can deploy??

The only other thing I can suggest is to browse to the Windows\INF folder and locate the setupqry.inf file. Right-click on it and select INSTALL.

Ok, I can't find the window/inf file setupqry.inf. I tried to install setupqry and it could not be installed. I ran both of the "runs" and it didn't seem to help. I think I'm gonna try to uninstall sp3. I'll keep u posted.

Hi mamabear1217. Try this, open my computer and browse to the C:/Windows/INF folder and locate the setupqry.inf file. Right click the file and rename it to setupqry.old. Next download the new file from here. After its downloaded extract the contents of the zipped folder and then place the new setupqry.inf in the C:/Windows/INF directory. After thats done reboot the computer and open the add/remove windows components again.

You will need to adjust your view setting to see that file extension. The setupqry file you see is actually your setupqry.inf file, your view setting are preventing the full file name from showing.

If you want to see the full file view of all files on your system do the following:

Click Start > Run > type control folders > OK > select VIEW TAB

Tag the box labeled "Show hidden files and folders "

Untag the boxes labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operation system files "
