I've just done a new install of XP SP3 (slipstreamed, if that matters) and need to install my audio drivers.

The Everest utility informs me that I have:
    Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3] PCI

I download that exact driver from realtek.com. The installer gets part way through then BSODs.

    Now what?

May be better to download the driver ftom the mobo manufacturer's site - at least you can then be certain (?) that it would be the correct one - or at least one which is compatible.

BTW - have you loaded the chipset drivers - from the mobo CD?

Gee, where's my head today? I do have the CD with the chipset drivers and the audio drivers (It's really a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio).

Now the sound's working fine. I have removed the AC'97 stuff entirely. I don't know why Everest is trying to trick me.
