Hello, all, I've shared the root c:\ on my main machine with full permissions for everyone, also in the same machine I have a drive named Backup, which I've also shared with full permissions.
When I try to access c:\ from any of my two laptops access is granted, from my Dell Vostro on first access (to my main machine) I am asked for username & password when supplied access is granted to c:\ and Backup shares.

On my Dell Inspiron on first access (to my main machine) no username & password are required and I can access drive c:\, however access to Backup drive is denied with the message you do not have permissions to access this drive...contact your administrator.

I have un-shared the backup drive and restarted the main machine and re-shared it to no avail. Any other ideas???

all machines using win7 ultimate x64

    Thanks....

Do all machines require a username/password during the bootup process?

Do all or some mahines have the same username/password?

Hi Steve, all machines require a username & password when booted...i.e. to login to there account.

All machines have unique passwords, my main machine has the same user name as the vostro laptop.

I haven't tried this, but I would think that the problem could be there.

Same user name should have same password. At least that's how my systems are configured.

Run this command from a command prompt: net use \\COMPUTER\SHARE * /u:account user name

    What prompts/errors do you get?

COMPUTER\SHARE = The computer name and shared drive. If the computer name contains spaces, use quotation marks around the entire computer name from the double backslash (\\) to the end of the computer name (for example, "\\Computer Name\Share Name ").

The * before /u will cause net use to prompt you for the password o the user you specify for account user name.

Example. I have a laptop named D820, shared drive F and my user account is Arie.

This is the command I run from my desktop:

    net use \\D820\F * /u:Arie

If you get an error that there are multiple connections, remove them by running the command: net use \\COMPUTER\SHARE /D

Hi Arie, Thanks for the reminder, I have the two laptops back Yaaa, however my main machine has gone down, Ahhhh, hard drive failure.. but the good people @ Seagate tell me it is still in warranty. Raptor's 10,000 rpm 5 year warranty. I’ll have to rebuild a raid 0 striped array from backup image. When done I’ll checkout the laptops.
