    Hi.

I use Windows XP and have been having trouble lately when I plug my mp3 player into my USB Port!

I use RealPlayer as my main audio source but the problem occurs even when that's not open!

What happens is...the computer just shuts off...the very moment I plug my player into the computer! Every time!!

Basically, what I've had to do to get around this, is to plug my mp3 player into the port before turning the computer on...it works that way but not sure that this is a good thing to do!!

I have some experience with computers but NOT hardware at all.

If anybody might know what's wrong or have any input, I'd really appreciate ANY help or advise that anyone could share!!

    Few questions ...
Does this only happen with mp3 player ??
Are you using the same USB port??
If you are using front panel ports, try ports at back of computer - or vice versa if failure has been occurring on back of computer.
Try plugging your mp3 player on a different computer.

    Dennis,

Thank you for the response! I haven't tried the back ones yet but both in front shuts it right down.
So far, only mp3 players...everyone that I've tried, 5 or 6...same thing, but I'll try your suggestion & let you know if it works or not...I appreciate the response!!
