Idem when I try to go here:

My SO is Windows 98 SE
    Browser: IE 6.0
Screen resolution: 1024x768 and 24 bit color.
I have also done Browser Challenge, URL:

I too see the overlapping text. I'd guess that the fault lies with the site.

In relation to the browser crash, erm, I'm a little stuck as due to the language barrier I can't tell what's happening or why :) Does the site offer any advice as to what you should do if your browser fails the test? If so, what is that advice?

The isn't in the site, if I go there with another PC with Windows XP I can see all well.
For the browser crash you can lokk here: http://www.guninski.com/winudp.html
where it is exlplained in english.
After posting my previous message I have had another trouble with IE.
When I go to Microsoft Windows Update it tells me that I need only protection update Mar 04 2002, but I am not able to complete download and installation. When download is at 2408 KB (complete download is 4957 KB) it stops, download windows disappears and I have the notice the installation was not done and to try again. I have tryied more than ten times allways with same result. It is very strange, I have never experienced something like.

Strange indeed. Of the first 8 slides, only 4 and 6 show as conatining blurred/overlapping text. I've looked at the slides on both a XP and 98 machine - they're displayed the same way on both systems. Adjusting resolution, text size and fonts does not prevent the overlapping. I have only taken the briefest of looks at the source but nothing jumped out at me as being obviously flawed.

Hopefully, somebody else may be able to shed some light on this - I'm rather baffled!

The DNS/UDP DoS "vulnerability" is not really a "vulnerability" at all. It's simply a minor annoyance (which I assume is why MS have not patched it). Basically, a Java applet is used to to tie up every available UDP socket which, as DNS servers tend to use the UDP protocol, prevents a system from resolving domain names. This "DoS attack" lasts only as long as the applet in running (close the browser window in which it is running and the problem ceases to be).

adoria - thank you for posting this one. Interesting stuff - especially the test page.

Brett - thank you for letting me know it was here. I rarely get up as far as the IE section.

RE the Slides: Pretty much has to be in the code. I had problems with the overlap until I went to the accessibility tab and set to ignore font sizes specified on the page. I was then able to adjust text size to make the slide clear and no overlap in the text.

So, just a few badly done piece of power point slide (which isn't all that unusual IMO).

RE the test page - that is interesting. If you are like me and don't speak Italian you can (at least with IE6) right-click and select "translate the page ". The rendering isn't perfect by any means but will enable you to understand what you are seeing and doing.

A couple of those tests made Norton AV light up big time. XMLid.exploit trojan. I didn't have nerve enough to turn off Norton and let the thing run but I imagine it is set to make the PC behave strangely or crash and not do other damage. Maybe. :) See what McAfee says about it Here.

I made it thru all the tests without major problems. No crashs, no loss of service, no explosion of hundreds of pop-up windows. No idea exactly what combinations of protection you might need but mine are:

    XP-pro - no SP1 yet
    IE6 (latest available version)
Norton AV with latest def files
Pop-up stopper (the free version) from www.panicware.com
Internet security set to medium-low (which isn't really recommended
for internet use - too low)

I do think the test page is the perfect site to send friends to if they are among those who don't use AV software "because I never open email attachments ". They may have a change of heart. :D

Newt - Setting to ignore font sizes specified on the page for me have had no effect at all also trying to adjust font size from very small to very large. In MS KB I have found this article:
Q318727 Text Overlaps When You View Excel Spreadsheets That Are Saved as HTML Files
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q318727
It looks me explaining what happens without giving a solution.
May be only solution is to go to Linux?
    Thanks to all.

Newt - Cripes - I was sure I'd tried unchecking that option - but obviously I'm becoming frail of mind :( Thanks for the hel on this one nonetheless :)

Adoria - when this option unchecked, IE reverts to using its default settings rather than those specified by the page you are viewing. Therefore, in order to view the page properly, you might need to experiment with IE's defaults.

Brett - The whole "adjusting" thing is much easier since I read a post (I think on here and I think from Daizy) that said if you hold down the CTRL key and spin your mouse wheel it does size adjustments. Love it.

Andrea - I went to the site and played around. It certainly worked fine for me after using the "Ignore Font Sizes" and playing with text size a bit. Was able to see all the slides clearly. Some worked with any size settings but several remained jumbled except at several of the smaller settings. As I said earlier, poorly done slides.

I didn't much like the results when I also said to "ignore font styles" though. It made the bullets really ugly and ruined some of the paragraphing.

Have you been able to make it thru all the browser testing on that other link you gave? That stuff was fun.
