trouble with gif images

I am asking this for a friend who has a compac pressario with win XP sp1.
She recently had to put it in the shop after a virus related problem and they had to do a destructive recovery(reformat and reinstall os) but when she got it back she has discovered that she is having a problem saving animated gif images she can save them as gifs but they will not animate.
she is really into gif animation so she wos wondering if this is some kind of setting problem or what. If it is a setting then how and where does she need to change the setting and allow her to save animations again? thanks in advance .

 

What program is she using to view the GIFs?

 

I believe that she is just using Internet explorer since that is generally the default program for viewing images .

Here's a *free* graphics program that will allow your friend to view animated .gifs

Irfanview

Download the extra plugins also. This is an amazing program. Hope you enjoy it.

she is able to view them fine but her problem is that when she saves them they are no longer animated but rather static when she opens them again.

 

chikid68--She is sure she is Saving As .gif ? It is easy to overlook what is in the "Save as type" line.
Just to test where the problem might be, if she is saving as .gif, suggest she use Irfanview.

 

she has it doinbg fine now it turns out that she was opening and saving using her photo program and it doesnt support animation now she uses IE to open and save gifs at least .
