    Hello All,

Just a note, I am not asking for help with the software program, I am trying to see if there is a problem with my drives (or possibly drivers).... after saying that...

My DVD burners are not working on my computer, I tried many kinds of software, and a external burner, but alas, it wouldn't burn.

NOTE: I am using Ulead Burn. Now (I couldn't figure out M$'s burning utility when it comes to DVDs)

It reads as follows under general information:
    Capacity......................................2298496 Blocks ( 4707 MB )
    Used Space..................................0 Blocks (0 MB)

I know there is a BLANK disk in the drive, yet the error message reads:

Disk error or the disk is not present.
Please insert a disk and make sure the disk is formattable.

What should I do, I have tried multiple kinds of disks, from no name brands, all the way up to Sony. I have run out of ideas.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated,

    Jason

Computer is a Sony Vaio VGC RA series(tried their tech support, they were utterly useless.... Is your computer on? No, I did not know that the computer had to be on to burn a disk. *click*)

    dvd drive

Can windows see a cd already burned? can the drive play an audio cd? If so could be your software needs re-installed. If not then you can try & remove the drive in deviceman & reboot, windows will re-install the cd/dvd driver. if that don't work open regedit You will need to do this: export to save the key first, just in case;)

Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-B
    C1-08002BE10318}

    Now delete the keys: reboot

FYI, XP can only burn CD's and have used it to burn RW's.

Yeah, it's silly, but I'm sure they have to deal with a lot of dumb@asses.

    RA Sony DVD problems

I have a Sony RA 718 and I also have the same problems. I believe that it is heat related as this model seperates the drives from the cooling area. I'm also looking for DVD burning software that will support multiple copies of DVD's simultaineously . My model has two DVD drives and the reader drive is where I'm having problems. I added a third USB 2 DVD drive to see if I could get around the reader drive with the trouble. The computer is freezing up when I start to have the problem and I have to reboot.

Don't know what computer you have, but you can't generally add drives without eventually overtaxing the power supply, and it sounds like your power supply can't handle the new drive. You might try removing the DVD reader. Actually 2 DVD drives may be too many for your machine. Power supplies weaken with age.

    Agree with Rancher. To elaborate:

Because all the writers act the same, even an external drive, you must have some central problem, such as (most likely) bad or damged software that might be fixed by an uninstall and re-install, or a nonfunctioning ide controller on your mobo. You need to try the disks in a known good working computer.
