Hi, I've downloaded ie 7b2 for xp. IE 7b1 is active on that pc. Install of the b2 doesn't complete, with the install giving message saying IE currently installed must be removed.

-Went to add/remove cp, windows component add/remove wiz. 1st ques (yes I should know the answer, but I don't):

-when uninstalling (IE 7) only, do I check everything else, so that those items are NOT removed, leaving only IE unchecked? Or (and I tried this, it appeared to not work)

    - Do I check ONLY IE ?

-I tried using Norton Clean Sweep 2002, but it said the app was protected & could not remove it. I didn't go to command line, should I? Properties said IE was not read-only. I also didn't try safe mode.

-So what is the proper uninstall sequence for IE? I did go to the MS website & found instructions for w2k not XP.

-On another help site, the replier stated there is "supposed" to be an uninstaller for IE 7 in the the add/remove cp. That uninstaller does not exist on my XP setup (pretty basic XPproSP2). But if I tried to reinstall b1 would an uninstall dialog appear?

    Thanks.

The procedure for removing IE 7 is as follows ....

Do not go into Add/Remove Windows Components - that is the wrong location :)

Add/Remove Programs main window - check the Show Updates box > scroll down to IE 7 > highlight it and click on the change/remove button.

I forget the exact wording for the entry for IE 7, but as far as I recall it is under I - that is above Microsoft.

I have installed/uninstalled several beta versions without any problems.

Let us know if you are successful.

No, before this beta 2 it's listed under Windows XP - Software Updates. The previous beta is listed as Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview.
