Using (Office XP Pro) Outlook 2003 with Windows XP Pro

    Hello,

I have a strange problem. Recently, I downloaded the weekly patches from MS and when the machine rebooted it would not boot. Message saying drive not readable pres Ctrl Alt Del. Tried various fixes and gave up decided to reinstall Windows XP Pro and all my applications. Data is backed up nightly to another drive so nothing was lost.

My problem is that since reinstalling windows and Office 2003 Pro. I have problems sending and receiving email. I get a message saying that it cannot connect to my email server. If I reboot the machine it works for awhile. Even more confusing is when I go to my wife’s profile to set up her account. After entering Name, Address, Password, Server Names, etc and when I press Test Settings. It bombs out and says cannot connect to server if this continues contact your admin or ISP. Then if I switch back to my machine profile and launch Outlook my email doesn't work.

I have uninstalled Outlook, deleted the mail profiles via the control panel. Reinstalled Outlook and went through the new user set up. Then imported the PST file fro mthe backup. Also copied over the files in the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder.

I am at a loss. The windows reinstall was a clean one and went without a hitch. In fact it was installed on a new drive so there are no remnants from the old.

BTW, after it fails to find the servers... if I reboot the machine. It works. But for how long varies.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    Tim

Do you have an Anti Virus program installed? If so, its possible it's blocking the mail.

    Trouble Sending Receiving Email

Yes, I do have antivirus software. Norton AV which is the same as it was before. Nothing has changed in the setup. All i did was reimage the machine. Setu pis as follows Win XP Pro, Office XP Pro, Norton System Works 2006, Sygste Firewall. This setu pworked fine until installing the weekly MS updates which rendered the machine unbootable. I have tried isolating the problem by disabaling the anitvirus software and firewall. Both seperately and together. Same problem. Right now its working ... but I fear if I go to set up my wifes email mine will die again and hers wont work from the git go.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks...

    Tim
