I have been having trouble making gif files. This seems to be a general system thing as it happens with all my graphics programs. I recieve the message "cannot save image. Image format filter initialization failed." whenever I try to save an image in gif format. I really do need to use gif format so this is urgent.

    Can someone please help???

    Many thanks Deb

    Hello

This can be a file association problem also. You suppose to check
out if any/some of your graphic programs can view a .GIF image
file.If none of them can "see" a GIF image, then choose a picture
you make first sure is a GIF,click_L to select it,press Shift key
    and click_R on selected GIF's icon.Click Open With,select a program
you wish to handle GIF files and press OK.Please don't check the
small  "Always use this program to..." box in the beginning if don't know
for sure which application you wish to handle GIF images.
The last but not the least:if this problem is a very recent one(less than 4-5 days),
please go to Start>Shut Down>Restart in MS-DOS Mode and type at the
prompt SCANREG and hit Enter key. There you shall fallow these steps:

-START (it's starting to scan Registry)
-View Backups...(you choose a date before that GIF problem)
-Restore(your actual Registry will be replaced with one of those 4-5 backups)
    -Restart

Please let me know how it worked.Success.

    Stefan
