trouble loading xp

    I attempted to load and install windows xp but awhile after i entered the key it stopped loading and the promp[t said error 768 in line 5118 and it said to check with support and a code 0x4,0,0,01. computer is an aptiva with a k6 chip. 20 gig HD, 950 mhz ram . I wanted to do a complete install but could not get computer to accept the cdrom as boot disk so went to drive d (CD) and used setup it started out fine but then quit and gave me the aformentioned prompt.
    I cannot get into the microsoft help as somehow it doesn`t want to accept my login. Anybody got any ideas. I was going to try bootup on a clean system anysuggestions.,
