I did search for the answer in this forum, but could not find it, so here is my long question.

Using Outlook XP and SBCYahoo ISP.

I want to add an email account that will have a different email address so I can send different replies. judy@yahoo.com to some people and judy@companyname.com to other people.

I am having trouble getting it to work -- and maybe it can't be done.

For the yahoo account, I use the yahoo pop3 and smtp address in those fiedls -- smtp.yahoo.com , etc. And the reply field is left blank. If I put a different address in the reply field I get an error.

What do I use for the company.com email address in the pop3 and smtp fields? And for the user name , password, etc. Nothing I do seems to work.

However, there are times when I use this same computer at another location and the connection is via cable instead of DSL and it is RR.com instead of yahoo.com. I did not change the smtp settings and my messages seem to all be delivered.

    Thanks for your help

Specify which e-mail account to use to send a message
If you have set up multiple e-mail accounts in Microsoft Outlook, you can specify which account to use when sending a message.

    In the message, click Accounts.
Click the account you want to use.
    Notes

By default, e-mail is sent by using the account specified as the default in the E-Mail Accounts Wizard. For example, your default account may be your work e-mail account, but you can specify to send a message from another e-mail account, such as your personal Internet service provider (ISP) account.
Sending messages from your ISP account may require you to be connected to that provider in order to receive permission to use the e-mail server. Contact your network administrator or ISP for more information.

For the company.com account info you will need to contact your IT dept at work for the information you need to enter (process is the same as what you did to create the Yahoo account)

I understand how to choose the account afater the message has been written and is ready to send.

What I cannot get to work is the setting for the pop3 and smtp addresses.

I don't have a problem with my default SBC account.

It is in the setting of the second account that I have the problem.

I guess I have a problem understand the use of smtp. If I am connected to the internet via an cable using the address rr.com, is that the outgoing mail server?

I have all the pop3 and smtp for the company.com account. But don't know what to use for smpt if I am connecting via rr.com.

Also, what password and username do I use? The one for company.com? Or the one for rr.com? I want my user name to be company.com, but maybe I should put that on the reply field?

Some ISP's require that you go to them first and set up a user and password. Then it can be added to Outlook or OE. Have you done that yet?

SBC Yahoo tech support walked me throught the process --- I already had my user name and password of course -- that was not the problem.

I didn't know what names , etc. to put where when adding another account.

So, this question can be closed.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

It didn't matter if you had your name and password. It has really nothing to do with adding another account. You were trying to add another account which as you know takes a separate name and password.

It did matter, because a new account would have different user names, etc. and would be put in a different place than the default ISP

Most ISP's will not let you just add an account. You have to contact them and have them set it up for you. User name and Password then you are set to go. Some let you do it online till you hit their limit which is usually 10.
