I'm having trouble adding network locations to a LAN Work Group. Sometimes I'm successful, but mostly not.

We have six HP PCs with XP-Pro connected via a Netgear FS108 8-Port switch. I keep getting "not found" when I try to add locations using the windows wizard. I can connect all PCs to an extenal network hard drive.

    Any suggestions?

Yes. and they're all in the same building connected by cable.
Question... could my security settings be defeating me.

All XP Pro systems must be set to "Use Simple File Sharing" via Folder Options > Tools Tab. If not, then you must use password protected sharing which will require all 7 computers have a user account on each computer, or all 6 computers must use the same logon name and password.

    Also, check the Windows Firewall.

How are these computers getting IP addresses? A router? If not, then set each comp with its own static IP address, same subnet and gateway address.
