Hello! I'm new to the forum so forgive me if I make too many mistakes :)

I got the Win32.Agent.gvu trojan yesterday and after a night of not being able to get rid of it with AVG and stressing out and thinking I will have to reformat my pc, I ran SpyBot, which found the infection and then found your website and a post by lily730 regarding this very trojan.

I have run hijackthis and this is the log:

I am now going to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM), as lily730 was instructed to do by Geri here: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=74744 and will post the log results.

If someone could look at these logs and see if the virus has really been deleted once I have posted the results, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Okay, so I did the MBAM scan and chose to remove selected infections, but I don't think it could delete it as SpyBot has just found it again after reboot.

Oops - and I forgot to add that the message that was popping-up whenever I accessed anything with explorer is not coming up now that I have run MBAM, but seeing as SpyBot has found it again, I'm assuming that I need to do what noahdfear has instructed other people to do and run HJT and delete one of the entries? I haven't tried to fix the problem in SpyBot as I thought maybe that would cause a change the registry entry again and muck up the log reports.

The info given by SpyBot is:

    Win32.Agent.gvu

    (SBI $CF6AD9E9) Settings

    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-399021780-3977417647-809879203-1000\Software\Microsoft\Bind

Also, please let me know if I need to run DSS as well.

    Thanks!

Okay, so here's the next update to my little saga :p:

After reading Valz's post about the same type of trojan here http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=74550 I decided to try to figure out what to do next myself.

I don't really know what I'm doing with fixing/deleting things with HJT, so I left that alone except for :

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NancyDrewGhostDogs.exe] D:\INSTAL~1\GAMEIN~1\NANCYD~1.EXE /r

as I know that is not supposed to be on my computer anymore and also another computer I use picked it up as a risk the other day. Hopefully to fix/delete that was ok and won't make my computer crash or explode ;)

So then I thought: What if I run SpyBot and choose to fix the problem this time?

So I did, and then I ran an MBAM scan to see what it said, which was 'The scan completed sucessfully. No malicious items were detected." Woohoo! here's the log:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.19
    Database version: 920
    Windows 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1

    12:17:23 PM 4/07/2008
    mbam-log-7-4-2008 (12-17-23).txt

    Scan type: Quick Scan
    Objects scanned: 40442
    Time elapsed: 5 minute(s), 27 second(s)

    Memory Processes Infected: 0
    Memory Modules Infected: 0
    Registry Keys Infected: 0
    Registry Values Infected: 0
    Registry Data Items Infected: 0
    Folders Infected: 0
    Files Infected: 0

    Memory Processes Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Memory Modules Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Registry Keys Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Registry Values Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Registry Data Items Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Folders Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Files Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

And then I ran SpyBot again to see if it picks up the Win32.Agent.gvu again, which it DID NOT! so now I feel I'm getting somewhere.

I am now going to do an online scan with Kaspersky and see what that turns up, I will post the results here.

If anyone wants to comment on what I've done, feel free!

So here are the results of Kaspersky:

    Scan mail databases: yes

    Scan area - My Computer:
    C:\
    D:\

    F:\
    G:\
    H:\
    J:\

    Scan statistics:
    Files scanned: 226817
    Threat name: 2
    Infected objects: 3
    Suspicious objects: 0
    Duration of the scan: 08:05:03

File name / Threat name / Threats count
    C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\13A80000\57EF3389.VBN Infected: EICAR-Test-File 1
    C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\13A80001\57EF33C9.VBN Infected: EICAR-Test-File 1
    D:\Installers\Program Installers\ftpx.exe Infected: Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Joiner.eo 1

    The selected area was scanned.

    ----------------------------------------

The first 2 are things that Symantec have quarantined, but I've uninstalled Symantec so I assumed that this should have been removed too.

ftpx.exe is the installer for FTP Explorer, which I downloaded for a course I was studying. I have deleted the exe file and emptied the trash.

Other than that, nothing else so WOOHOO!
