trojan small.id with hijack this log

I have a feeling either weather bug (I know I should not have said yes to aol messenger) or my weakness for online solitaire games somehow made me open to a trojan after trying to be so careful.

According to housecall it's trojan small.id . Ad aware nor spybot can fix this, I would appreciate any help I can get!

You are using a very outdated version of HijackThis. Please download HijackThis.exe from here, overwriting the one you currently have, then post a new log.

Your computer is considerably behind on Windows Updates, which leaves alot of security vulnerabilities open to exploitation. Suggest you visit Windows Update and accept all critical updates offered (choose the express install). Reboot and go back until no more updates are offered.

If My Points is listed in add/remove programs, I recommend you uninstall it, reboot and delete the MyPoints_PointAlert folder in C:\Program Files.

Are you using the current releases of Ad-aware, which is now SE Personal 1.05, and Spybot, which is now version 1.3?

Did Housecall identify which files were infected?

Thanks for your help.

I had the latest version of spybot but not of ad-aware. The new version of ad-aware must have fixed it, because when I scanned again with housecall it was gone.

I got rid of the mypoints and also downloaded the newest hijack this. My computer has all the updates with the exception of service pack 2. I was advised against it but I'm wondering if it was bad advice?

You first need to put HijackThis.exe in a folder of it's own. Create a new folder named HJT and move HijackThis.exe to that folder.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

You would do well to uninstall the ScanSpyware program. See here.

I recommend applying SP2. It plugs more security holes, as do the several updates you will get after applying it. The firewall is much better and will offer more protection than you currently have, although I also recommend using a third party firewall instead (don't use both). I don't see any AntiVirus program running either. Suggest you get one. SP2 also adds a security center, which is designed to alert you if the firewall, antivirus and/or automatic updates become disabled.

Also recommend you open Spybot and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it (always recheck this setting after downloading updates). Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install, enable all protection and update. Check for updates regularly and watch for any protection being disabled. Then, still in Spybot, click tools button, then IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file.
Then download IESpyad.exe, double click to extract (it extracts to C:\IESpyad by default), open the folder, double click the ie-ads.reg file and allow it to merge into the registry.

That will give you some added layers of protection against unwanted parasites.
