Norton Internet Security popped up an outbreak warning a few minutes ago. There is currently no protection for Trojan.Peacomm. Also see Spam Surge: Storm Trojan!

Whichever security software you are running, run "LiveUpdate" frequently until they have got it nailed.

    Take care,
    Christer

Those are all variants of the same 'Storm Worm' currently making the rounds.

I have some info on my spam]phish forum

Be sure and check out the name changes to the file along with the titles of the emails, as also referenced by the Symantec page.

Easy to avoid tho......just don't open any emails from unknown sources. Keep your av up to date, be sure it has incoming email scanning activated.

I got my notice earlier from Symantec, in the last few hours. Seeing as this thing has been out since late last wee, that's not what I'd term as a 'quick' response.

Not everyone is on top of these things like you or I. But really as long as you're smart about email, this isn't any threat.

Unless of course you're a news feed hound and get email alerts from all sorts of news sites. :D

Or you're heavy online dater, and are expecting love notes from some far off lover. :p (They updated the info, it now has 'love related' titles)

One of the reasons I love NOD32. It updates on an hourly basis. :)

These days it's becoming a must option. Infections change so quickly now, mostly due to them being found out, and then spread around the av community so fast.

We have them on the run!! :D

Now if we could only get everyone to stop opening unknown emails, spam would drop off the face of the earth over nite.

I wonder why it took Symantec so long to get the outbreak warning popup onto the systems?

Could it be their policy to update definitions on a weekly basis but when certain threats are discovered, it will be sooner. LiveUpdate runs at startup and every four hours by default but the user can set it to every thirty minutes. As long as there was no fix, no outbreak warning but as soon as the fix was imminent, the outbreak warning was issued and it prompted the manual running of LiveUpdate on a regular basis.

If the picture I painted is true, then they don't use the outbreak warning properly (as soon as possible).
