    Hi,
I have been spending a considerable amount of time on a friends computer (Windows Xp) cleaning out infections like "Smitfraud-C Toolbar888 and Virtumonde" etc...I have manage to win each and every battle except one. AVG keeps finding "Trojan Generic3.GII showing the path as C:\Windows\System32\bhkabhk.dll "...Located the BHO which is:2A904E40-731D-4881-83FB=04EFDEE88C3B...

I tried to delete the BHO and it will not delete, and when I try to delete the file in System32 it will not delete...Both attempts were made in Normal Mode as well as in Safe Mode with hidden files & folders and hide protected file system unchecked...System Restore has even been turned off...

I have downloaded Smitfruad fix and the Virtumonde fix along with AVG, Spybot, SpySweeper, XCleaner, Trojan remover, AdawareSE, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard and AVG Anti-Spyware along with a few others and have ran most of them in both modes still with no luck...

The computer is running excellent and I have absolutely no problems with the exception of this one...I have also done all the house cleaning on cookies, temps, etc as well as maintenance...I could live with just the AVG detection but a pop up keeps appearing on screen constantly from AVG...I uninstalled and reinstalled it incase it had become infected and so far it has not made a difference...Any assistance will be once again appreciated...Thank you.

    Hi Master.

Lets get a HijackThis! log file and see what else is lurking.

Download HijackThis! SetUp from here. Save the file to your desktop.

Double-click the HijackThis! SetUp icon to begin the installation. Follow the prompts for the default install location of:'C:\Program Files\HijackThis'. Tick the 'Create a desktop' button when the option appears. Select next, then allow HijackThis! to start.

Then press the [Scan] button. You will notice the [Scan] button will turn into a [Save Log] button. Click the [Save Log] button and notepad will open up with the contents of the scan. Right-click in the saved log, and select 'copy'. Then proceed to your original thread, unless otherwise instructed and click the '[Reply]' button and paste the saved contents to be reviewed. Do not make any modifications to the log or perform any 'fixes' until told to do so.

    Hi Master Green

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum.

    Then please do this.

    Please download FixWareout from here:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log

Please post the 3 logs here.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi Master Green

    OK, things are looking better.

    Lets submit this file.

    Jotti File Submission:
    • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
    • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan "box on the top of the page:
      • C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmkch.exe
    • Click on the submit button
    • Please post the results in your next reply.

    Now lets run this,

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Please post the Jotti log, vundo log and a new HJT log.

    Disclaimer
This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 15Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy. If you do not want your files to be distributed, please do not send them at all.

Sponsored by donations (in random order) from: Stormbyte Technologies LLC, The ClamAV project, Steve S., Eric Johansen, Eric Schechter, Paul Bokel, Wilders Security, Wilfried Lilie, Prevx, SonicWALL, Lance Mueller, Ewido networks, HotelScraper.com, people who donated in the past, and some people who prefer to remain anonymous... many thanks to all!

    Hi

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
    • Select:
      • Delete on Reboot
      • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

      C:\WINDOWS\system32\bhkabhk.dll

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Please Post a new HJT log.

    HI,
I forgot to mention the "Pending file rename operation registry data has been renamed by external process" did pop up...

The AVG threat for "bhkabhk.dll" continues to pop up even after running Killbox three times (3x) which is why I ran it three times...

    Hi

Please download Java It needs Java installed, Vundo targets computers that don't have it.
    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Then after Java in installed run Vundo fix this way.

    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Right click in the white box
      Click on add more files
      * Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes

      o C:\WINDOWS\system32\bhkabhk.dll

      * Click Add Files and Click Close Window

    Please rename Hijackthis.exe to Killer.exe

Then please post a new HJT log.

    Geri

    Hi,
I ran Vundofix.exe and it did not find any infections...Below is the new HijackLog and I don't think I renamed it correctly...I was wondering if I should uninstall AVG because all the scans you have requested and I have done are no longer finding anything we should worry about ???

    Hi,
I finally corrected the time on the computer...Also, when the threat is detected by AVG it says: C:\Windows\system32\bhkabhk.dll Trojan Horse Generic3.GGI...Wanted to add that as I don't recall bringing that to your attention in any of my previous posts...When I click on it to move it to the vault, it will say it has been succesfully removed and ask to reboot...After rebooting, it continues to pop-up continuously again and again...That is also why I am wondering if the AVG has this file some where and can't release it and maybe uninstalling it will be the answer ???

    Hi

OK, I'll get TeMerc to come take a look here. You can try the uninstall but I don't think that will have any effect.

There are some things we heed to fix with HJT. So lets do that first. Then you can try the uninstall and I will get ahold of TeMerc to look in

Please post new HJT log after this is done.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    Hi,
After the first scan it showed all the 017 entries gone...So I ran it again and despite the two attempts the 02 and 020 entries remain and the AVG threat detection pop-up continues....Below is a new and third Hijacklog...Please also keep in mind, that this computer has on three different occassions while submitting a HijackLog has rebooted on it's own, may or may not be attributed to what we have been fighting so hard to remove...Otherwise everything is running great...

    Hi
OK. I was told to try this.
    Lets disable Spysweeper

    To disable SpySweeper:

Open it, click the Options tab, then the Program Options tab and uncheck load at windows startup.
Then click the shields tab and uncheck home page shield and automatically restore default without notification

Then run KillBox and copy and paste this file to Delete

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bhkabhk.dll

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2A904E40-731D-4881-83FB-04EFDEE88C3B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bhkabhk.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: igmzfjhr - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bhkabhk.dll

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close HJT.

Now reboot and post a new log.

    Geri
