Trojan :admincash [HJT Log]

Hello,
I recently posted on the xp forum that I was having problems with ie6 and some other problems.
I searched around frantically did many scans, sfc, downloaded microsofts antispyware etc.
None of them found three registry keys that xoftspy 4.10 found
two of the registry keys were related the cws combo trojan and then the last registry key is referred to as trojan.admincash

I deleted the registry keys and then rebooted, rescanned etc. I was clean. Then I noticed that my java plugin (sun) was no longer working so I had to uninstall it, download and reinstall it. When I did that the registry key came back.

Same registry key is on my husband's computer and the same thing happened. I know that part of symantics removal instructions for this virus is to remove this registry key but why does my java plugin no longer work????

Is there a way that I can fix this thing

From all that I can tell, there are no other signs of any other virusses, trojans etc. The other keys that symantic refers to deleting are not there - just this one key.

My best guess is that the trojan.admincash creates a second 'fake' key of the same name. Look at the value data in the right pane. Here's mine;

As you can see, the key is for Sun Java. False positive from xoftspy. Leave the key. Your log is clean. Still having problems with IE?

You know, I sort of suspected that it was a false positive. I did look up that key though and it is listed as one of the keys to be deleted as per several site's removal instructions. Yes, it definitely is the key for sun java. I was almost suspect that their download file was infected but nothing else was picking up this virus.
I really appreciate your input - you have put my mind at ease.

I did soooooooooooo many scans today- I'll just have to cross xoftspy off my list of reliable scanners.

As far as IE goes, it's been fine today but it usually only acts up once a day (usually when I start up- especially if my husband's computer is on at the same time)
It may have something to do with our networking settings - I live in Canada and we are both connected to an ethernet network modem provided by our service provider (sympatico). Our connection is fine but maybe there's a conflict somewhere.

Oh well, just have to wait and see.

There are several other errors in my event viewer. I actually think I corrected one of them last night

I certainly won't recommend using xoftspy (Spybot and Ad-aware fan, as seen in my signature), but based on Eric Howes' list, I won't recommend uninstalling it either (I did read both links, dated April and June of 2004......list updated Dec 2004 for xoftspy). I would however, recommend reporting the false positive to the software vendor in hopes that they will further address their false positive issues.
