I have a Gateway running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I'm using Trend Micro Internet Security. Is this a good Security system for my system?

Its good enough. But keep it updated & remember none of the security product catches everything - you need a layered security approach.

You mentioned a layered security system. What would you suggest?

Hi amaurer2. In addition to keeping Trend Micro up to date, I would suggest you download one of the many free anti spyware programs here, Anti Spyware Applications. I would download and install Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster from that list of programs in the link. They work well together and are great applications for protecting your computer against online threats.

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded spybot and am running that. I have a firewall that came with Trend Micro. Is this good enough?

To add an additional layer of security you could add a wired router which would give you a hardware firewall in addition to the software firewall included in the Trend Micro Security suite. The hardware firewall doesn't affect your computer's performance or speed because it doesn't run on your system as the router sits outside your computer and acts as the first wall of defense. Hardware firewalls work best on a broadband Internet connection, such as DSL or cable modem. Another plus is a hardware firewall won't easily be disabled by malicious software, as software firewalls often are attacked.
