In anticipation of buying a new computer, I'd like some advice as to transferring files to that computer. As a example I want to transfer a game file from my program files. Ive got an external drive so everything in program files can be simply cut and pasted, but what about the registry files?
Is ther any simple programme for doing this?

What kind of programs are you trying to copy ?

The best way to do this is install the original program on the new computer - this will
set what needs to be set in the registry file.
Then copy the Files from the Old Computer to the New One where the program was installed

Messing with or Copying a Registry File can cause SEVER COSUQUNESIE if you do not know what you are doing
