I have a new PC running XP Pro. Is it possible to directly read and copy data from my old PC to the new drive? How do I do it?

Easy way, get a Crossover NIC cable and connect it between the two computers. That assumes both have network cards, which is likely. Check your owners manuals to verify. Alternately, check by looking on the rear panel for a jack (8-cond.)that is larger than the normal phone jack (4-cond.).

Then you can use the Windows Network Connection Wizard to set up a local network connection between the two computers. Once done you can enable sharing of the old drive and pick and choose whatever files you want.
