What is the best/easiest/most complete way of setting up a new laptop. My sister-in-law is getting a new laptop and I will be helping her transfer everything from the old laptop to the new one.

I want to make sure all goes well and I don't want to just clone the old hard drive. I know about The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Win XP but I have only used it once.

Is that the best way to move everything that she wants moved? When I used it myself it was pretty good but not as complete as I would have liked. I still had to do some stuff manually.

What are some recomendations for doing this as good as it can be done?

    THANKS
    John

Sorry to see that your post has been overlooked :(

The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard is one way to go, although I've never used it.

If you don't fancy using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, back up all her data to CD, back up the contents of Outlook Express. IE's cookies and Favourites, etc to the same CD and copy/import into the new system. Generally easy enough to set up the Internet connection again on the new PC.

How to back up and recover Outlook Express data

Thanks Pete. Are the Outlook files stored in the same place as the Outlook Express files?
