When I endeavour to export messages form OE6 I get the following error message.
I have done a search for the Mapisp32.exe file with negative result.
Not sure where to go from here..have googled for answers but figure my best chance is here with a fuller explanation.

The MAPI Spooler could not be started. Close and then restart all
    mail-enabled applications MAPI 1.0 (000004c7)

I have searched for Mapisp32.exe both on my hard drive and also the XP Home Installation disk but am unable to find it.

Is your email account a standard POP3 account?

So presumably you have neither Microft Exchange (unlikely) or Outlook (?) installed.

I suggest you reregister OE and it's library files as outlined here ....

An Outlook Express basic repair kit

Ignore this command - regsvr32 msjava.dll - you do not have MSJava installed.

To clarify what's been said already, if you use Outlook Express File menu > Export > Messages, you MUST have Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange installed in order to export messages.

If you want to export the messages to a different email program then you will have to use a 3rd party program that converts the Outlook Express mail folders into the format supported by the other email program. If this is the case, what email program will you be using?

And Windows Vista uses Windows Mail, which is the new name for Outlook Express. It's similar, but slightly different. Windows Mail can import the folders from Outlook Express. All you need to do is copy over the Outlook Express mail folders from its store directory. The default location is:
    Documents & Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data/long string of numbers-letters/Microsoft/Outlook Express

The Outlook Express store directory is a system folder, thus you must set Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab to show hidden files, show system files.

    TonyT,

Thanks very much for that clarification overview.
What I was wanting to do was to save all of my OE emails onto another HD in case I had a problem with my operating HD. I am suprised that OE doesn't facilitate this unless I have installed MS outlook or MS exchange.
I am not familiar with these two programs.
    (a) Would they serve any other useful/necessary purpose other than a requirement for the exporting of the OE files?
    (b) would an alternative email software program be a better option?

    Thanking all

It would appear that this link http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/migratefromoewlm.htm
provides essential information in relation to exporting from OE to MS Outlook which is just another email software program.
But; could I then export from MS Outlook to another HD..seems to be a messy way of doing what I want to do.

    You're welcome.

    Just do this:
Copy the entire identity folder to the other hard drive. The OE folders could be used to replace the default folders on a new install, imported into Outlook or Windows Mail on a newly installed operating system drive.
    Documents & Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data/Identities/long string of numbers-letters/Microsoft/Outlook Express

I magically somehow transferred exported my emails to another HD which suits for the time being.
Not a "real" solution to the problem but a safe compromise for the time being.
    Thanks everybody
