    I would like to transfer a large number of emails from my Desktop running XP Outlook to my Netbook running XP Outlook Express.
    I have exported them successfully to a .pst file and transferred them using a memory stick.
    When I try to import them I get the message 'Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client'.
    Any ideas what the problem might be?

    Thanks Pete, tried your suggestion with the following result.
    Method 1 was not relevant.
    Method 2 gave the same error message as before.
    Method 3: downloaded Windows Live Mail and tried to import emails in .pst file as before. It only gives the import options for OE 6 or Windows Live Mail or Windows Mail, not Outlook. None of these work.

    Copy the original PST file to Netbook.

    In OE click on FILE->Import
    Following the bouncing ball.

    Sorry Steve, but I do not understand your suggestion.
    If all else fails, I have a copy of Office 2000 which inludes Outlook, so I will install that on the Netbook and I should then be able to import a .pst file.

    Outlook stores all mail and contacts in a PST file.

    Find that file and copy it to the other pc.

    Open Outlook Express on the other pc and go to File->Import and point the import function to the PST file you copied over.

    I thought that is what you meant, but if you look at my original question, you will see that I have tried the obvious and it hasn't worked.

    OK.. I saw:
    And didn't think that meant the same thing as "coping" the original file.

    I have spent some time trying to get round this problem, but have now acheived some success. For the benefit of anyone with a similar problem if the normal export/import doesn't work, I have a program called Mail Navigator which will save mail from Outlook and Outlook Express. I copied this program across to the Netbook computer and it has retained all my emails in .pst and .dbx formats.
