Hi All, looking for some help configuring the firewall on a TP W8968 ADSL Modem Router.

    I've setup DDNS successfully.
I've set up port forwarding successfully however the ports I'm forwarding are still blocked. I've checked this with dyndns port forwarding tool.

    my sinearo is this

Dvr Box ports 15961 & 9000 are listening for traffic on ip address 192.168.1.100.

I've tried this http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=467 with no success.

    http://www.tp-link.us/resources/simulator/W8968_v1/index.htm

anyone got any clues, I have tried many combinations.

    Thanks In Advance

If you are using Win 7 go into the firewall, advanced, and open the ports you need

Thanks for you effort, however it's not my windows firewall I'm trying to configure, it's the firewall in my moden/router.

Thanks but I've got the ports configured successfully Pete, it's the firewall I'm having issues with.

Hi Whacker, On your 2nd. link, when you click on > Firewall > Enable - what happens? Neil.

Hi Neil, nothing obvious, I thought that after port forwarding & then enabling the firewall, it would auto resolve (i.e allow forwarded ports) to work. However this is not the case.

What I don't understand is how the default firewall setting (inactivated) works.

Earlier D Link and Thompson. Neil.

This does not apply, it's for blocking a LAN device from accessing the Internet.
    http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=467

First of all, usually 192.168.x.100 is a dynamic IP assigned by a router. Make sure the DVR has a static IP in a range that is not used by the router for dynamic IPs. For example, older Linksys routers used 192.168.1.100-25x for dynamic IPs and anything below that could be used for static IPs.

Port 9000 is the media port & port 15961 is the mobile port. To test if the port forwarding is working correctly use your WAN IP address assigned by your ISP along with the port number. Example:

    12.34.56.78:15961 for a mobile device

Does the DVR have an HTTP port. Most do and are set to port 80. If this is the case then you'll have to change the HTTP listen port in the DVR because your ISP will be blocking port 80. ISPs block port 80 to thwart subscribers from running home servers. Change it to something like 8080 or 8090.

Also, test port forwarding by connecting to the DVR over the LAN (192.168. addresses).
