Ok... this one is a kicker.

I recently had to purchase a new HDD for the Laptop after one doa I got one and installed it. I went to install xp pro on it and well it installs but the entire OS is screwy. I cant install any network system. All the hardware checks out except for one thing it has a question mark on other device property. named base system device. All in all I dont know why this is doing that. I have installed this on several other computers but not on a laptop. Does anyone know anything in particular about these laptops which would cause an incorrect installation of windows. I am about at wits end. It seems the only cd that the laptop will see is the windows install cd??? wierd. I am confused and hopefully someone could please help. Thanks.

Hey thanks charles for the info. I am at my wits end I want to throw the dang thing. I have never ever seen an install do any one thing like this laptop has. Why would the only cd to work in the driver be a windows install cd? and that is it. it will not see anything else. The two cd I have are both windows install cd and are the only ones that the drive will see. There is ZERO networking on the laptop. And it wont install it either. I am begining to wonder if they made this system proprietory. Although I have read of many installing linux and other os's on the same thing. The 2 cd it recognizes are the same type of media. :( .
