Toshiba Portege - up to Win XP?

A relative has asked whether his 5 yo laptop is able to accommodate Windows XP. His new PDA cannot sync with Win 98 so he has to upgrade his OS whether installing XP on his existing laptop or buying a new one.

My guess is that his current machine is too small for XP but I thought I'd check here with the experts. He hasn't told me the model name but I do have the technical specs:
- Pentium III 600 MHz
- 64 mb system memory
- 6 or 12 gig hard disk

plus there are pages of other techy info that I haven't included here.

What do you think? Could he run XP on this machine?
