    Hello to all,

I have a user who was having problems with their laptop, an overheating issue.
They said that the fan was grinding (had a staple in it)
They also complained on over heating problems (on going for 2 months) and would only run for about an hour.

So I took the laptop apart replaced the fan, cleaned the other and cleaned the heatsink and proc putting new thermal paste on. Reassemble the laptop checking the ribbon cables and other connectors.

    What I get now:

No display (or backlight) and the external VGA port doesnt work either
    CD drive doesnt have power
    Fans still dont spin up
    Hard drive doesnt start up
    No POST
NIC has power when you turn on and have cable plugged in and connected to another network deice.
    Proc heats up
    Battery charges

So I know that the mobo is getting power. The harddrive was tested in another laptop and is working.

Has anyone else had similar problems with this or similar model of laptop?

I think the mobo and or proc are dead finally due to heat.

If anyone has any ideas of a fix I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

    Hi Dcrypter,
    Just noticed these:
If the fans don't start I don't think the system will. On a desktop machine I might think the fan power system was burnt out. You may be able to overcome this by running the fans directly from the power supply rather than through the motherboard, but that's on a desktop.
