    Hi,

I can't access this external hard drive anymore. It's the usb type.
I used to be able to, and it became slower and slower, then one day I couldn't access it at all.
It's recognized by my computer, but it freezes up my computer. I've tried to run a virus scan on it to see if there's a virus on it, but it freezes that up as well.
I have alot of pictures/data on there that's important and don't want to lose.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Impossible to say if the problem is a faulty hard drive or a faulty controller in the external case. Your best bet is to remove the drive from the case and either put it in another case or connect it directly to the computer via a cable such as this

I guess you have tried it in another USB socket and also on another computer to confirm the problem?

From your post it would appear that you do not have a backup of the data on that drive - bad practice as drives can fail at any time :(
