I feel as though I saw discussion of this somewhere, but forgot.
Depending on what programs you have installed, when you right click an empty spot on the IE Toolbar, you will be offered to check which toolbars you want to have shown. (For example, Address, Google, Norton AV, Links, etc.). Just the other day I noticed that if I check to have Google show, I get Norton. And if I check to have Norton show, I get Google. Now that I know that, I can adapt. :) But does anyone know where (in the Registry?) those items can be made to perform properly when checked?

I have IE5.5 and I think you have IE 6.0 but you could look in these keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

    or

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

JohnB--Help me along here. Attached is a screen shot of
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar in my Registry.
You can also see that I have the Google Toolbar showing on the Toolbar in the background, although (as mentioned) I have have Norton AntiVirus checked in the context menu. Google Toolbar is unchecked. And you can see that I do not have Norton AntiVirus on the Toolbar. What setting changes in this key should I make to change the context menu?
BTW--2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F is the CLSID for the Google toolbar.

Sorry Jim, I don't have a clue what to change. I have the same CLSID for Norton but do not have Google installed. Don't know why they would change. Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall the toolbars?

Maybe some one more "expert" in the registry can help out?

I tried changing the Data value to "Google" on the 2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F line, but I was not permitted to enter alphabetic letters--only numerals. Interestingly the Norton Antivirus Data line says Norton Antivirus.

    Jim

Afraid that I cannot help either - I use the Google toolbar regularly (couldn't live without it on the BBS :)) but I dumped NAV last week as the sub had expired.

FWIW a screenshot of the current Registry entries sans NAV.

PeteC--Thanks for the comments and image. I understand you have the Google Toolbar showing on your IE toolbar. Interesting that your data value for it is 00, just like mine. So changing the date value 00 to "Google" is not the answer.
Oh, well, not the most important thing in the world.

I seem to have found the solution to this stupid problem.
The right click toolbar context menu also included Juno Toolbar, which I was not using, and so had not checked. But just for the fun of it I clicked on it, which installed the Juno Toolbar. Since I did not want it, I clicked it off, and then, lo and behold, the Norton and Google context items worked just fine. Weird.
Thanks, JohnB and PeteC, you gave me some good insight about the Registry.
