If you want a toolbar on the right side of the screen all you need to do is open windows explorer in a normal window (so you can see the desktop behind it). Click on the folder or drive you want for the toolbar and while holding the mouse button down drag the folder to the right side of the desktop (all the way to the edge of the screen) and release the mouse button. For example, in windows explorer click on the c: drive and drag it all the way to the right side of the screen and let go. A toolbar will appear. Now, if you right click on the name of the toolbar (in this case, c: ) and point your cursor at view in the menu you can choose to use large icons or small. Also, in the same menu you can choose to use auto hide if you don't want it on the screen all the time. If you want to be able to see the toolbar when you have a maximized window open choose always on top in the same menu. The auto hide will still work with this selected. If you don't select always on top the toolbar will only appear when you can see the desktop. Now, if you want the toolbar to cascade like the start menu does, create a folder in windows explorer and name it anything you want (perhaps blank). Now, drag the folder over onto the c: toolbar you created. Another toolbar will appear below the c: toolbar named blank or whatever you named it. Right click on the name (blank) of the toolbar and in the menu uncheck show title. The name will disappear and all you'll see at the bottom will be a horizontal line. Put your cursor on the line so that it changes to an up and down arrow. Now, drag the line all the way up to the top just under c: until that's all you see. Click on the c: and you'll see that it will cascade. You can add more folders to the same toolbar in the same way. However, whenever you add one it will always be added to the bottom. If you add another one and want it to be above the blank one just put your cursor on the added toolbars name so it becomes a plus sign (arrows pointing all four directions) and then drag it up to the c: toolbar. The new one and the blank one should change places. You'll then have to drag the blank one up again if you want the new one to cascade. If you want a toolbar with your favorite apps in it you can create a folder and add shortcuts to it for whatever you want in the toolbar and drag that folder to the right side as stated before. You can add subfolders to it if you want to seperate certain types of apps (games, utilities, music, etc.). To get rid of a toolbar, right click on the name of the bar and choose close toolbar in the menu. It sounds like a bunch but if you play with it a bit you'll see that it's really quite simple. Hope this helps. :)

Zander, thanks for your response. I must be doing somthing wrong. When I click and drag to the edge of screen I get a short cut that appeares in the center of the desk top,
I bring up windows explorer from a list of programs on the desk top(is this a normal windiw)? Ican click on an icon in the window or from a list that appears in left side of the window, either way I get the same results. Sorry to be inept but am at a loss.

Are you dragging a folder to the right side or a particular app? You have to drag a folder or a drive. So if you want a bunch of shortcuts to certain programs on the toolbar you have to create a folder and then put shortcuts in it. Then drag the folder over. Perhaps you aren't dragging it far enough. Make sure you drag it far enough so that your cursor disappears off the right side of the screen and then release the button. Another way you can accomplish it is to right click on the taskbar and point your cursor at toolbars and then click on "new toolbar ". A window will open and then you can browse to the folder or drive you want to use for the toolbar. Click on the folder or drive you want and then click ok. The toolbar will appear on the taskbar. To get it to the right side of the screen put your cursor on the name part of the toolbar and click on it and while holding down the mouse button drag it up to the right side of the screen. You can also drag it to the top, left side or even somewhere on the desktop if you so choose. If this works for you, you can add more to it by right clicking on the toolbar (the new one on the right side) and doing just as you did on the taskbar. The rest of the things that I spoke of before will be the same.

Zander, I was able to show programs as you said however, as I was moving things from the list of programs shown on the desk top(not the icons) I lost from the list several programs, starting from the top with accessories and several others that I now cannot access.
I have done a bo bo, can you help?

Trying, I use Microsoft office toolbar on both Win ME and XP. You may have to go into Microsoft office setup to activate the toolbar option, but once active, all you have to do is drag and drop to it. It can be auto hidden and moved to any side of the screen.

Did you get your missing icons problem fixed yet. I'm not really sure which ones you're talking about. Do you mean you're missing the accessories folder and others in your start menu?

ZANDER, yes I lost accessories from the list on the desk top(not the icon) however, was unable to find it to bring it back, I really did not know where to look. So I ran the restore disk to start over. So, I think I will stay safe on the shore.
