I'm looking for any advice I can find on the subject of software for scheduling a construction job. We're not a huge company, there won't be a fleet of subs, and I don't need to integrate timelines from different offices. The only software that anyone seems to mention is the giant and very expensive Microsoft Project package, and that seems like overkill.

We have used Plan Bee, a little program from a Canadian company, but it's fairly primitive and doesn't really do what we need for this project. I'm going to need to be able to change the schedule based on changes in delivery dates or weather delays, and I'd like to be able to print a calendar from it.

I'm just hoping there's something in a price range and degree of difficulty between Plan Bee and Microsoft Project!

Thanks - I'll have to go through the list to see what they have.

The one detail I neglected to mention is that I don't need accounting software, timesheet tracking, or contract analysis. It's timing that I'm looking for, which is why I think something simple - and maybe cheap - has to be out there somewhere!

Don't know if this is relevant, but if you're using MS Office this may be of interest.

I believe that the Corporate version of the new Office 2003 has a MS Project client, and from what little I've looked at it it seems to work as a stand-alone application as well as just a client to the MS Project Server package.

But I'm not sure if the client is sold separately or only as a part of the MS Office suite - and if you need the corporate version in order to get it.

A google search for Gantt Charts project management gave over 31,000 hits and some I glanced at on the first couple of pages look like the sort of thing you asked about.
