A few of the current threads refer to looking at and/or changing things in "about:config ". Just for giggles, I decided to look at mine - I'm still running NS 4.8, under Windows 2000 Professional. I was alarmed to find several different entries that began with "timebomb "! I hope this isn't some esoteric virus that affects Netscape - but what IS it?

Guess it's time for me to go search for the instructions on how to replace my old Netscape with Mozilla...

Well first check to see if it is "ticking ".... if it is.. RUN!!!!
Nah, just kidding. Is a feature to announce new releases for the program. Can be a pain in the butt when and if it was active. Since 4.8 was a end of version security update, your just seeing old code with no activation date. With 2K on your computer, you should have no problems moving up to the current models. Would NOT suggest the discontinued Netscape versions. Give Mozilla 1.6 a test drive, a very nice browser. Whether you try the last released Netscape (7.1, which has issues) or Mozilla, it's going to be change from 4.80. Both will allow 4.80 to stay installed while you become familiar with either choice.

    PS
Current Netscape and Mozilla browsers can pass off as kissing cousins in basic view and touch... but in performance, features, and reliability, Mozilla is in a league of it's own.

Well, that's reassuring, anyway! Most of the references to "timebomb" seemed to have a value of -1 - I guess because it was inactivated.

I'm thinking more and more about trying Mozilla 1.6; Netscape 4.8 is becoming unstable, and there are sites it just can't handle. I know Ramona has given very clear instructions about how to install Mozilla, including how to duplicate my Netscape user information - but using this board's search function and putting in "Mozilla 1.6" gets me far too many hits!

Ramona's Solutions as written by the "Angel" of Netscape and Mozilla. One of the most charming woman on the net. With a smile and a "please" I'm sure she could direct you to a few choice threads to get you in the comfort zone and take the plunge.

Oh, I know what a Netscape guru Ramona is! She's helped me out of more than one jam, going back to (I think) around NS 3.x...

Ramona... pretty please with chocolate sprinkles... can you point me at the information I need?

Wow, chocolate sprinkles? Your wish is my command, Ace.

This link should give you the information you need:
    http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns67cleaninstall.html

Your Communicator Profile will be migrated to Mozilla 1.6, and the conversion should go without a hitch.

Let us know if you have questions, or if the guidelines aren't clear.

    Ramona :D
