My work computer is not showing the proper time. It is always 6 minutes slower then what it should be. Not a big deal, but I just want it to show the correct time. Since we are on a server, I can't use the Internet time sync option. It's just not there. So, I first figured, hey, just change the time. So I edited the time, and the on the hour, it will go back to it's original time. Kinda annoying. Next I figured, hey, it's probably working off the Bios time. So, lets edit the Bios time. Load up the Bios, change the time, restart the computer, and Lo and Behold... it's wrong  It just doesn't like me. Any thoughts?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Odds are you're syncing with the Server and its clock is off.

Do any of your co-workers have the same issue?

That's the thing, it's not synching with the Server. Each computer is running on it's own time. I'm trying to get all the computers to show the same time, so as to no confusion with our "Time Cards" of sort. We can log our times on multiple computers, but none show the same time, so it's not exactly accurate. Meaning, I get to go and edit times more often the I would like in a day. Gives me something to do, but it would be nice to not have to.

So you're not syncing with the server...What's the deal on the local computers not being able to use their built in Internet Sync function?

This is from Help - Adjusting Date/Time:
    If time synchronization fails
When you click the Update Now button, your clock should be synchronized immediately. If it fails, it might be for one of the following reasons:

You are not connected to the Internet. Establish an Internet connection before you attempt to synchronize your clock.
Your personal or network firewall prevents clock synchronization. Most corporate and organizational firewalls will block time synchronization, as do some personal firewalls. Home users should read the firewall documentation for information about unblocking network time protocol (NTP). You should be able to synchronize your clock if you switch to Windows Firewall.
The Internet time server is too busy or is temporarily unavailable. If this is the case, try synchronizing your clock later, or update it manually by double-clicking the clock on the taskbar. You can also try using a different time server.
The time shown on your computer is too different from the current time on the Internet time server. Internet time servers might not synchronize your clock if your computer's time is off by more than 15 hours. To synchronize the time properly, ensure that the date and time settings are set close to your current time in the Date and Time Properties in Control Panel.
The bit about Firewalls may be worth looking at. Neil.

I'm just a novice and don't understand servers. My desktop kept having the wrong time, not x minutes wrong but x+ so and so. Anyway, my main application needs to be exactly synched with the correct time causing problems. I changed the battery and it started synching exactly right. You might try that.

This is directly from the Microsoft web page.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307897

"When the computers are part of a workgroup, you must manually configure the time synchronization settings. You might identify a computer as a locally reliable time source by configuring the Windows Time service on that computer to use a known accurate time source, either by using special hardware or by using a time source that is available on the Internet. You can configure all other workgroup computers manually to synchronize their time with this local time source. "

Pretty much, you can not use the built in Internet Time Sync option while on a workgroup. So no checking firewalls or anything will change that. But from my understanding, it also say's I should be able to manually change it, but apparently I can't. I just wish I knew what it was synching with, cause if each computer is different, it's not synching with our server.

Although, I think I may have found my answer in looking for this answer. Guess we shall see.

Ahhh, did not know. Marked it as solved now. But at least I did give an way to fix the issue. Although, at the same time, I've noticed that work around doesn't seem to work on Windows 98. My work computer is XP, but another one I was trying to set up with the same time is 98. The times between the computers are off by 30 seconds or so, so I'm not going to try and fix it. No point.

So, I know that fix works for XP at the very least. And didn't work on 98. No idea on the other windows based systems. Good luck to anyone else with this issue.
