There a couple of ways. The one which I like to use with downloaded files, either .jar or .xpi requires that you open the Extention or Theme manager (Option|Extentions). Then, minimize the program, so that only the extention (theme) manager shows and I drag and drop the file into the manager. Then, I get the usual request to allow installs, say ok. Close the program, and restarted.
I am not promising that it will work, but if you can install, in first place, you should get some message. It may not be compatible. You must select Use Theme in the Theme Manager. But, I know nothing about that theme.

    Gaston,

I was able to download and install the Silver Theme, but found that the file needs to be downloaded from the author's site:
    http://www.maurobartoccelli.com/silverskin/thunderbird.htm

Drag the Theme to the Theme window, and click: Install
Highlight the Theme and click: Use Theme

    Next:
    Exit Thunderbird

When you reopen Thunderbird the Theme should be in use.
