When I send an email to someone and I retrieve my mailaddress from my Personal address book I get in the window To: not only the mail address but also the display name.
    e.g. "first last" <first.last@provider.cc>
What I would like to have is: first.last@provider.cc (without the " " and <>).
Is this possible and how can it be done?
    I use Thunderbird version 3.1.2
    Thanks in advance.

When you create a new contact in the address book do not fill in the lines for first/last name just fill in the E-mail address line and save the contact.

This worked for me when I tried it.

If you are adding addresses to your contact list automatically or from incoming e-mails, you will have to go into the address book and edit the contact by deleting the first/last names from the entry.

Summing up you only need to have the E-mail address line filled in. All other boxes should be empty.
