    Welcome to the Forum, andrews28210!

First thought is to check your Firewall settings to ensure that Thunderbird is allowed to access the Internet.

What software or changes have you made to your PC in the time frame that TB worked, and then started locking up?

Start TB in "Safe" Mode ", and see if it locks up. To start in "Safe Mode ":
Start | Programs | Mozilla Thunderbird | Mozilla Thunderbird (Safe Mode)
This will disable all Add-ons, and start TB in its pristine state
