Hi all, .............. In preparation for the purchase of a Chromebook and after using Thunderbird for many years, (currently TB 17.05.) I decided to look into Gmail. After installing Chromebook on my computer and trying Gmail I wasn't too impressed with the mail presentation. That is not the reason for this post.

I have seen in this forum and others that with Google Gmail it is possible to have TB as your mail receptor without major changes to either program. Since I have tried to accomplish this several times without success, I need some advice. After setting TB to be my default mail on these occasions, the next day all my e-mail ends up in Gmail. If anyone has worked TB/Gmail I would appreciate some guidance.Thank you.

I use both and I never had situation like yours.
If someone sends an email to your Gmail account it'll surely end up in Gmail account but I don't see how it's possible for any email sent to your regular address ending up in Gmail account.

On a side note, in my TB I have Gmail account set so I don't have to go anywhere and everything arrives to my TB window.

Hi derfsch, I had to change last August from Yahoo/xtra to Gmail (server) and I use Thunderbird as client.
Open your TB > Tools > Account Settings > enter your a/c name you set in gmail. eg. derfsch@gmail.com. > then your name > email address >

Server Settings > (what you set up in gmail-IMAP or POP) > User Name >

    Outgoing Server > Google Mail-smtp.googlemail.com

You may have to open Account Actions at the bottom to Edit your old email entry.
    Mine works 100% OK. Neil.

Hi All. ........... As the last comment in the video says: IT WORKS! My thanks to each of you for your contributions.

broni: The last sentence of your post made me realize that I probably should be doing more with the Thunderbird setup.

Neil: Your walk-through directions and the video moved me in the correct direction but I had some trepidations making changes in the Server Settings. It was then that I realized that the changes you advised were necessary to make things work.

Doc: After finishing the moves shown in the video I still followed its suggestions and made several test mailings, sent and received, and as stated above: It Works.

    Thank you again.
