Hi All, ............... I'm in the stage of switching from Windows XP to Windows 7. So far in Win7 I have been able to make font size adjustments in Windows, Firefox and parts of Thunderbird. TB is V. 3.1.6 using Arial as the default font. I have a 22 inch monitor set at 1680 x 1050, the recommended resolution.

When I open TB, the information displayed in each panel and the tool bars is small but readable. My complaint is that regardless of any attempts for size increase, the font size stays at the same small size. The content of the various left-panel folders (Inbox, Sent, etc.) all lend themselves to size adjustment and I can change them to my satisfaction. Does anyone have a solution to the main TB screen constant size?

You may not have to create a userChrome.css file. Windows 7 tries to "decide what would look best on your screen" depending on your video card & monitor. The default setting on my comp, right after install, was set at "smaller 100% ". I had to change it to "medium 125% ". Do this by rt clicking Desktop > Personalize > Display (lower left).

jabrwky, ............... The site you suggested contained much good information. However if you note the paths being discussed, you will see that the solutions offered apply to WindowsXP and not Windows7. Also, as it applies to Thunderbird, I haven't been able to find a userChrome.css file in my Win7. I hesitate to establish a Chrome folder and any sub folder as part of TB. Still I was interested in the solutions and I will try adapting them for Win7. Thank you for your interest.

TonyT, .......... When I installed Win7 my resolution setup was as you described. Upon trying to improve the readability, I increased the setting to Medium - 125% and that was where it was for my initial post. The results where small, readable but still not satisfactory. Since then I have gone to Larger -150%. At this setting the font size appears to be acceptable and something I can live with. I'm not sure that going from the 100% default to 150% is the final answer but for the present I think we can close these postings. Thank you for your support.

The userChrome.css does not exist, it has to be created. You do with Notepad, Add the CSS styles you desire and then save the file as userChrome.css.

Your other option is to use a different resolution and go back to 125%.

But after all is said and done, it's whatever is satisfactory for you that counts.
