I use Thunderbird for my email client but I have and use ATT mail on the Internet.

I deleted all of my contacts on the ATT web site and imported my contacts from Thunderbird using the AddressBook\Tools\Export and chose the CSV format.

The contacts all imported except none of the email addresses were imported.

Does anyone here use these mail options and know what the problem is?

I tried to use the AT&T Help but all of it seemed to address the importing and could not find anything about the email address not importing along with the name.

It would take trial & error to import the contacts. You would have to manually tweak the export file as per importing program requirements.

The major problem is that the major services/programs settle on a common format [csv in this case] but don't agree on the sequence of data. For example, one of the program may store data in Last Name, Middle Name, First Name, Email id other program may store it as First Name, Last Name, Email id. If you import from one program to other, some fields may be imported ok & some not.

Thanks. I guess I'll never get it figured out. I thought it would be a simple procedure.

    Very easy to handle.

    1. Open TB address book.
    2. Manually enter one contact with first name, last name and email address. (The display name will get populated automatically)
    3. Export the address book as a csv file and name it tb-addresses.csv.
    4. Open the csv in a spreadsheet program such as Excel or OpenOffice Calc.
    5. Open the AT&T csv in a spreadsheet program as well.
    6. Copy+paste the columns' data from the AT&T sheet into the tb sheet in the appropriate in the desired columns, while retaining the tb column headings.

In actuality, all you need in the TB csv is first name, last name, display name and email address.

If the AT&T csv does not have a column similar to TB's Display Name, you can merge the first & last columns into one column using a formula.

    Tony,

I've had no problem with exporting from TB. I export it as a CSV file and Excel takes over.

AT&T just has the option to Import and even though everything I have read says it will import from TB, there is no option for TB itself so I choose Desktop option and import the CSV (Excel File) which has the first name, last name, screen name and email address.

But sadly after three or four tries all that ever gets in the AT&T contact list is the first and last name.

It looks as if I will have to pull up each name in Yahoo mail (AT&T) and add the email address. I have a 285 name contact list. What an ordeal.

I've tried to find help from AT&T but somehow haven't been able to do so.

If I wanted to export to TB, TB shows up in the list. Strange.

I'm lost and sure didn't think it would be a big mess like this.

    Thanks for your time.

    For what it is worth,

I use SeaMonkey all time but, I took Thunderbird Version 2.0.0.7 which I also have on my computer and exported a few address out using the comma Separated which gave me a CVS file to import into ATT and all I got with the import was first and last name and no e-mail address.

I then exported from TB using the LDIF format and Imported that into ATT and I had first and last name and the e-mail address.

I did not get the Display Name and so happens no other info like phone numbers or nicknames were in the exported file and it only contained 6 e-mails addresses total since I don't use TB except to help my friends who do use TB.

    My 2 Cents, Ray

    Thanks.

I guess I'll take the time to add the email addresses manually. I had also tried the LDIF format with no luck. Bummer.

    Is nothing easy?

    Thanks.

Try deleting all columns except first, last, email.
Can you export from at&t? If so, use the same column headings they use.

I had already tried deleting all columns except the ones you mentioned.

I will take a look at the AT&T Export feature.

I do note that when you Export, TB shows up but when you import TB is not specifically noted. You have to use the OTHER option and open the CSV file on the Desktop.

Enter just one contact in AT&T & then export it to CSV file & open it in Excel.

That file would give you the columns in which the data is to be formatted for importing back to AT&T. Now make the TB columns compatible with AT&T & import it.

    rsinfo,

Thanks for the tip. I tried what you suggested and there were so many columns and many that were totally not needed.

I've decided to just enter the addresses manually which I know will take some time but it has to be easier than this. It should be a simple procedure since Thunderbird has been around for a mighty long time.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
