Everytime I check my mail and go to the Trash, Outbox, etc. before I shut it down, that is the folder that will open next time I open Thunderbird up to check my mail. How do I get it to open up to my Inbox at startup regardless which folder I am in when I shut it down? Thanks

Hi, have you tried Thunderbird Forums as I think I saw an answer to that question when I last looked there. When you have TB open, click Help > Help Topics and it will take you to TB Knowledge Base > Support > FAQ or Forums. Cheers Neil.

When you open TB go Tools > Account settings > Server Settings > click on Advanced. A window will open (Advanced Account Settings) make sure Inbox for this servers account is checked. Close out TB and open again to see if that fixes it. Neil.

TB will ALWAYS open to the viewed folder when you closed it the last time. To have TB open to the folder of your choice use the extension called Folder Pane Tools.

I like some features of my programs, and Thunderbird 3.0.4 has not behaved, properly, from day one. It is possible that I never noticed the issue reported, because I always end with the Inbox of the default account. I did not have FolderPane Tools installed in 3.0.4, although I had it in 2.0.0.24. The primary usefulness of the addon, in 2.0.0.24 is to be able to change, on the fly, the default account. From way back, before Thunderbird came out, the first account which was set up was default, and it was the only account to be shown fully expanded, with all folders visible. I have eight other accounts, and I need to click on the arrow to the left of the account to see the folders.
I did not have the addon in 3.0.4, but rather I had the ExtraFolder Column addon, which allows me to see other columns in the list, such as total size of the folder, and read and unread messages. This feature was missing in 3.0.4. The set up of the account settings is, by default, to open the Inbox of the account, so it can't it. I uninstalled the ExtraFolder Column addon, and I ended up missing items such as read/unread and folder size. I tried to install the FolderPane Tools addon in 3.0.4, and where I see information in 2.0.0.24 when I click on Options of the addon, I see a "parsing error" in 3.0.4, making it useless. I confirmed that whichever account is, last, used, will open in 3.0.4. But, if I go back to the old ways, ending with the Inbox of the default account, it is a non-issue.
In other words, at least, with several accounts, we are back to the behavior in the old Netscape, and it confirms, again, that 3.0.4 has, yet, another nuisance.

I use version 2.0.0.14 on Linux & 2.0.0.24 on Windows. There's been no useful changes for me in versions after that.

Yes you are correct Tony and Westside. If you go to Inbox before closing TB, there is no problem - it opens in the Inbox the next time you open TB.

Westside, I had a problem with TB 3.0 which came with Smart Folders. I didn't want them and found when I went to Mozilla Forums that quite a number of other users were complaining about these new features which were confusing and not user friendly. I use it now without Smart folders and it seems to be smooth enough for my needs.

I hope dwlt17 can make sense out of all this. Cheers Neil.

It seems that everyone is, either, totally in the dark, or fully satisfied, as there has been no post for one week. I want to add one comment on TB3.x.
I used, yesterday, for the first time, in a week. The slowness exhibited while downloading the nearly one hundred e-mails in my eight accounts was unbelievable.
As usual, it is very slow when messages are deleted or moved. I wish I had an option to do away with some of its new "features ". But, I guess I know that there is such option, and it is called 2.0.0.24.
    Good bye 3.0.4!

I'm recommending a friend to install TB 3.0.4 on his new Windows 7-64 computer. It seems like it would be wise to go for 2.0.0.24 instead, right? However, doesn't support/security updates for 2.x end in the near future?

It is possible, but, I would prefer to have a reliable and user-friendly 2.0.0.24 than an unfriendly 3.0.4. I am sure that the developers of Mozilla Messaging are aware of the general dislike of this new version. I uninstalled it, and with it came a questionnaire, and I gave 3.0.4 the thumb down.

Okey, thanks for the info. I installed 3.0.4 on my friends old computer to import his Address Book and Emails from Outlook Express (and a subsequent transfer to his new computer). When running TB, I didn't notice "slow operations" or anything else but I have no experience of 2.0.0.24. I installed 3.0.4 on the new computer as well and I actually think it works pretty well. The first thing I did was turning indexing off and telling my friend to use the "all folders" view (as opposed to "smart folders "). If my/his opinion change, I'll uninstall 3.0.4 and go for 2.0.0.24.

The slowness of 3.0.4 may be due to the fact I have a relatively ancient machine, with 512 MB RAM, although 2.0.0.24 is much peppier.
I installed 3.1b2, which, eventually, should produce a newer final version, and it is peppier. In every way 3.1b2 is like 3.0.4, so there must be something to it.
The only issue which I have with any 3.x version, is its lame attempt to help me set up my mail server. They are correct in picking the port number to receive mail, but incorrect in picking the server. They come up with non-existent servers, and they don't even pick the correct port for Sent mail.
My wife and I have eight accounts set up in 2.0.0.24.

Yes, I noticed that I had to go "manual" on both the old (XP) and the new (W7) computer. It is a POP account but on the old computer, it suggested IMAP ... ... !
