    Hello all!

I have tried both settings regarding receipts, "global settings" and "account specific settings" but I never receive requests for receipts. When I download the same mails into Outlook Express, I receive the requests.

Anyone else having the same problem.

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

    Morning Christer

Just did a test send from Thunderbird 1.0
Issue, received / acknowledged, followed by return email for message displayed.
    Seems to be working fine.

    Hi Christer,

I'm a bit puzzled by your question, as you wouldn't receive a request for a receipt unless the sender requests one. Not many of my correspondants do so (nor do I), but I do receive one occasionally.

    Good evening Dennis and Jim!

    Dennis,
that's the behaviour that I recognize from OE but it doesn't happen in TB.

    Jim,
I'm still running TB and OE in parallel. I use TB during the day but use the setting to leave the messages on the server. In the evening before shutting down, I start MailWasher to filter the messages and then OE to download them again. OE is not set to leave any messages behind.

During this week, I've had a conversation with an insurance company and they always request a receipt. Those requests didn't show up until I downloaded the messages into OE in the evening.

It's possible that the "leaving on the server" is the culprit and I'll test reversing the procedure of downloading messages.

I have sent a few messages to myself and have requested a receipt.

In OE, the request pops up no matter what the settings are.

In TB, the request never pops up no matter what the settings are.

As I mentioned earlier, I have tried both "global settings" and "account specific settings ". In both cases I have used "allow receipts under certain circumstances" and have set it to ask under all circumstances.

    ...... ...... Christer ...... ......

    Christer & Dennis ...

I've just tried what you've both tried, sending test messages to myself. Like Christer, I'm unable to generate a request for a receipt, no matter how I have the various options set.

I have a Yahoo account, as well, and sending a message to that address didn't generate a request for a receipt, either. Yahoo has no provision for requesting receipts for messages sent from that account, so I was unable to test from there.

On the other hand, sending myself a test message using OE and requesting a receipt did generate a request when I opened the message in TB. Acknowledging the receipt generated a "Return Receipt (displayed)" message with TB.

    I'm using TB 1.0.1, Aviary build dated 03-02-05 (that's 2 March, Christer :D ).

I sent messages both ways, OE > TB and TB > OE, so many times that my head is spinning!

Requests for a receipt always pop up in OE, sent from OE or TB doesn't matter.

Requests for a receipt never pop up in TB, sent from OE or TB doesn't matter.

Firefox 1.01 is still not capable of speaking swedish and I can't find any Thunderbird 1.01 in any language. You showed me a back door a while ago but I have a teflon coated memory!

To make things even more confusing, I just sent a test message to my Yahoo account using OE, which is set to request receipts, and no such request was generated when I opened the message at Yahoo.

As you suggested earlier, perhaps the fact that the message is still on the server (Yahoo is webmail) has something to do with it.

You might as well, as your English is a lot better than that of many people I know (and it's supposed to be their native tongue!).

    Christer,

I tested your theory that electing to "Leave Messages on Server" might be your problem, but found that I was able to send, and receive a Return Receipt, regardless of whether or not I used the "Leave Messages on Server" option.

I tested it both ways, and the Return Receipt request was received, and returned to the sending account:

    Thanks Ramona!

It's strange that our computers behave in different ways and I wonder if it can be related to me denying TB its default profile ...... ...... but I don't think so.

I'll wait for the new release (1.01) to see what it brings in this respect.

I don't think so either Christer, as I made Mozilla 1.8b1 my default, and my receipts were still sent back...

Could you be using an extension(s), or Theme, which might be interfering?

I doubt that 1.0.1 will behave differently unless you start with a new Profile.

    Ramona, Christer ...

I've been playing with this again this morning, using TBird 1.0.1, 050302 with the default theme and only two extensions (Launchy and about.config, neither of which should affect return receipts) installed.

With the cooperation of another BBS user I ran a series of tests, sending messages using different return receipt settings to both him and myself. When I had "When sending messages, always request a return receipt" checked in either Account Settings or Options, he got a request for a receipt. In NO case did a message sent to myself generate such a request.

As the King says in The King and I, "Is a puzzlement! "

    JSSR,

your restults (RR not requested when sendin to the same account) sound logical. Why would you want a RR when you send to the same account in the same program....

It has been that way for some time IIRC.

I can't comment on the sending from Moz/TB to OE as I don't have OE.

    regards:captjlddavis

For test purposes only, just to see if I could generate one when sending a message to myself.

I'll bet you do, unless you've removed it from your system in Add/Remove Windows Components (in which case you could always reinstall it, if you like). I don't recall what its default location is, so do a search on your C: drive for MSIMN.EXE.

I tested my receipt stuff in TB version 1.0 (20041206) by sending from one of my addresses to another and it works both ways. These are accounts on the same ISP. I have each account set rather than global.

    Jim

Do you have 1.0.1? I went looking and didn't find it.

    Hi Bill,

I'm using 1.0.1 aviary builds. The parent folder will show you links to all the recent releases, both trunk and aviary.

That's why I couldn't find it...Don't know what an AVIARY is. Something like a notary public? :D
