    Hi,
Once again I am trying to assist someone who has an issue I can not seem to find the solution too...The computer in question has Windows Xp and it's possible the owner deleted something related to the problem...When an attempt is made to enter Internet Explorer, it says "This Page Cannot Be Displayed "...I have done the following:
    (1) Verified it's IP Address > all appeared to be proper and correct
    (2) Checked System Information > Winsock not showing corruption
    (3) Event Viewer > The only error is with W32Time (not W32time.exe)
    (4) IP Address > release and renew (still cannot access the Internet)
    (5) sfc /scannow > no problems (did not request the XP CD)
    (6) Modem > unplugged it and re-plugged it (still cannnot access the IE)
    (7) Network Adapter > says it's working properly
    (8) Network Connection > click on repair - no problems
    (9) Address bar > typed www.microsoft.com "Internet Explorer cannot open search page "
(10)Registry > changed start page and search page to ISP "Verizon "
    (11)Add/Remove > nothing appeared suspicious
(12)TaskMgr > Several listed, nothing appeared suspicious
(13)Msconfig > Nothing required to be unchecked at this time
    (14)Ping IP Address > sent and recieved 4 reply's
    (15)CPU usage > running around 2 %
I do not know what else I can do at this point...The computer home page is normally set to www.yahoo.com, email is IncrediMail...Any assistance or suggestions will once again be greatly appreciated...Thank You

If Service Pack 2 is installed:

    Start, Run, netsh winsock reset

Wait for the prompt to restart the computer. Restart the computer.

If no joy: Start, Run, cmd /k netsh diag gui

Enable all options and run the test.

What entries are failing the ping test?

Finally, post the results of an IPCONFIG /All back to the Forum.

Okay, thank you...I will give that a try this evening...It was another step I was aware of but after attempting the other ones I was not sure if it was something I should or should not attempt...Will post back later this evening.

    Hi,
Update...I tried the netsh winsock reset using the run box as instructed and after a few minutes nothing happened...I then went to start / run / typed cmd / and typed netsh winsock reset...It was then that it indicated it was successful and required a restart of the computer...It was then the mission was a success, as an Internet connection was established...I then had to reactivate the owners Verizon acct, and do a password recovery for the email setup with IncrediMail...All is well now and I thank you for your expertise once again...
