My problem is simple. I hope the solution is just as simple. Third party software, while it will start the download, stalls at 99%. I would like to know why this happens and how to fix it.

    Hi Tudorlady,

This is not a "one size fits all" problem. Different reasons depending on multiple factors:
google web users vent about downloads stalls/drops at 99%

google groups talk about download 99% stalls

The above is google hits which focus on the general topic, perhaps something in this will ring a bell.

Are you getting any errors or anything at all that may help to pin or pare this down?

If, after reading the hits on this topic, you have not found a fix, you'll need to provide a lot specifics than you have:
    >windows version
    >software your using to download
    >things you have done to eliminate this, such as disk cleanups, emptying temps etc.
    >errors
    >does this happen randomly, occasionally, or all the time

To sum up be as specific as can and supply as much information as you can. If you do find a fix that works for you, please be kind and comeback to this post to share your fix.

Goddez1 kindly reminded me that I had not left enough information. First, there is no error message at all. The download simply freezes at 99%. I am using Windows XP Professional Edition, the latest Windows Internet Explorer 8, no special software used to download, just IE8, and XP Pro Ed. I've done disk cleanup, emptying temp files, Deleting cookies and history, closing all programs except one needing download. This happens with all third party software, JAVA, REAL Player games, registry fix software, you name it, I probably tried it. Windows updates download fine since I have encountered problem with third party software.
